Sometimes the places we wander become part of us, finding their way into our imagination long after we've returned home.
Inspired by a hike through a wilderness refuge, this painting began with the beautiful light filtering through the trees and the quiet experience of watching for birds. Later, two separate sketchbook studies, one of the forest and another of a bird, came together in an unexpected way.
Among the red alders, a crowned bird emerges, carrying a sense of wisdom, wonder, and connection to the natural world. The forest becomes more than a place we visit. It becomes a reflection of the beauty and mystery we carry within ourselves.
The Landscape Within is a reminder that nature doesn't simply surround us. It becomes part of who we are.
